Emergency Preparedness

lorettaHi, I am Loretta Kerschen, Harper Hospital’s Emergency Preparedness Director.  I would like to be light hearted, funny or a little quirky, but seriously preparedness is no laughing matter.  I am in charge of training the staff and helping our organization be prepared for emergencies or disasters.  From time to time we do drills and exercises to become better prepared and to find the areas that we can improve on.

Harper Hospital has and will continue to cooperate with local, regional, state, and federal agencies in coordinating efforts of emergency management.  Harper Hospital is a participating hospital in the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS), and a member of the South Central Kansas Hospital Preparedness Group.  The Regional Plan provides guidance for the sharing of supplies, equipment and personnel in the event that a member hospital’s resources are exhausted in an emergency situation.

Harper County Emergency Management is responsible for the County Emergency Operations Plan, the coordinated response of public and private assistance during disasters, damage assessment and resource coordination following disasters.  Harper County Emergency Management also acts as the administrative arm of Local Emergency Planning Committee of which we are a member.
